Pugnant Glory Hole in Syros International Film Festival

Παρακολουθείστε ταινίες μέσα απ’ την κλειδαρότρυπα. Το Pugnant Film Series μετατρέπει τον κισέ του κινηματογράφου Παλλάς σε ένα μοναδικό σημείο προβολής. Πέντε ημερήσια αφιερώματα στους δημιουργούς Phuttiphong Aroonpheng, Elizabeth Vazquez, Jorge Nunez, Susu Laroche και Dagie Brundert. Το βράδυ τα αφιερώματα θα μεταφέρονται στις εξωτερικές τοποθεσίες του φεστιβάλ.

Watch films through a keyhole.  Pugnant Film Series makes the ticket hole of Cinema Pallas one unique screening spot. Five daily tributes in the directors Phuttiphong Aroonpheng, Elizabeth Vazquez, Jorge Nunez, Susu Laroche and Dagie Brundert will take place. At the night the screening of the tributes will take place in the outside locations of the festival.

Phuttiphong Aroonpheng studied fine arts at Bangkok’s Silpakorn University. His short films have screened in festivals including Busan, Rotterdam, Hamburg and Singapore. His short, FERRIS WHEEL, screened in over 20 festivals and received 10 awards. He participated in 2009 Asian Film Academy at Busan, and was also selected one of Asian Public Intellectuals fellows by the Nippon Foundation. He also works extensively as cinematographer, with credits including VANISHING POINT (dir. Jakrawal Nilthamrong), THE ISLAND FUNERAL (dir. Pimpaka Towira) and DOLPHINS (dir. Waleed Al-Shehhi). MANTA RAY is his debut feature film that won best film award of Orizzonti section at Venice Film Festival .

O Phuttiphong Aroonpheng σπούδασε στην καλών τεχνών του πανεπιστημίου Silpakorn στη Μπανγκοκ. Οι μικρού μήκους ταινίες του έχουν προβληθεί σε φεστιβάλ όπως της Μπουσάν, του Ρότερνταμ, του Αμβούργου και της Σιγκαπούρης. Η μικρού μήκους ταινία του Ferris Wheel, προβλήθηκε σε περισσότερα από 20 φεστιβάλ και απέσπασε 10 βραβεία. Το 2009 συμμετείχε στην Ακαδημία Ασιατικού Κινηματογράφου στη Μπουσάν, και είχε επιλεγεί επίσης ως ένας από τους Asian Public Intellectuals από το Ίδρυμα της Nippon. Εργάζεται επίσης ως κινηματογραφιστής, έχοντας συμετάσχει σε ταινίες όπως το Vanishing Point(σκηνοθεσία Jakrawal Nilthamrong), The Island Funeral (σκηνοθεσία. Pimpaka Towira) και DOLPHINS (σκηνοθεσία Waleed Al-Shehhi). Το Manta Ray είναι η πρώτη του μεγάλυο μήκους ταινία που κέρδισε το βραβείο στους Ορίζοντες του φεστιβάλ της Βενετίας.

ET Vazquez (Elizabeth Taide Vazquez) is a first-generation, Mexican-American artist from Los Angeles. She received her B.A. in Film at the Arts University of Bournemouth (AUB) in the U.K. and continues her studies at the University of Philosophical Research in Los Angeles. With video and drawing as her preferred medium, she often incorporates a dry sense of humor into her work.

Η ET Vazquez (Elizabeth Taide Vazquez) είναι πρώτης γεννιάς, Μεξικανοαμερικάνα καλλιτέχνιδα από το Λος Άντζελες. Πήρε το πτυχίο της στον κινηματογράφο από το Πανεπιστήμιο καλών τεχνών του Bournemouth στην Αγγλία και συνεχίζει τις σπουδές της στο Πανεπιστήμιο Φιλοσοφικής Έρευνας του Λος Άντζελες. Με το βίντεο και τη ζωγραφική ως αγαπημένα της μέσα, συχνά της αρέσει να μπολιάζει με μαύρο χιούμορ τα έργα της.

Jorge Núñez lives in Madrid (Spain). He works Cinema through his movies, film programmes, writing, teaching and music. PhD in Fine Arts in 2013. Nowadays, he`s a Guest Teacher in InCreArte Master Degree at the University of Basque Country. During 2013-2016 he co-managed the art centre Puerta in Bilbao (Basque Country). His music project is Niebla Fascista and he manages the Pantalla Fantasma Weird Film Festival since 2012.

O Jorge Nunez ζει στη Μαδρίτη (Ισπανία). Δουλεύει στον κινηματογράφο σαν σκηνοθέτης, curator, σεναριογράφος, καθηγητής και μουσικός. Πήρε το PhD στις Καλές Τέχνες το 2013. Σήμερα, διδάσκει στο InCreArte Master Degree του πανεπιστήμιου της Basque Country. Κατά το 2013-2016 ήταν συνδιαχειριστής του καλλιτεχνικού κέντρου Puerta στο Μπιλμπάο(Basque Country). Το μουσικό του πρότζεκτ είναι το Niebla Fascista και διευθύνει το Pantalla Fantasma Weird Film Festival από το 2012.

Chaos Rule Us is an anagram of the artist’s birth name, Susu Laroche. She is a multi-disciplinary artist working with analogue 35mm, 16mm and sound from her studio in London. Her work has been exhibited at galleries and festivals internationally (ICA, Somerset House, Samawah Iraq, Nihilist Film Festival). On Halloween in 2017, she released her own interpretation of the tarot deck with purge.xxx, along-side a survey of her films at Close-Up Film Centre.

To Xάος Μας Κυβερνά είναι ένα ανάγραμα του βαφτιστικού ονόματος της καλλιτέχνιδας, Susu Laroche. Δουλεύει με διαφορετικά αναλογικά μέσα σε 35mm, 16mm όπως και στον ήχο από το στούντιο της στο Λονδίνο. Η δουλειά της έχει εκτεθεί σε γκαλερί και φεστιβάλ παγκοσμιώς (ICA, Somerset House, Samawah Iraq, Nihilist Film Festival). Στο Halloween του 2017, δημοσιευσέ μια ερμηνεία της στα ταρό με το purge.xxx και μια ανάλυση των ταινιών της στο Close-Up Film Centre.

I was born in a small town in the middle of West Germany. Beautiful nature, but boring after a while… I moved to Berlin and studied visual arts / experimental film. Fell in love with my super 8 camera (Nizo) in 1988. Since then I try to be a particle-finder, a wave-catcher and a good story-teller. I try to absorb weird beautiful things from this world. Chew them and spit them out again.

Γεννήθηκα σε μια μικρή πόλη κεντρικά της Δυτικής Γερμανίας. Η Φύση ήταν όμοργη, αλλά βαρετή μετά από λίγο... Μετακινήθηκα στο Βερολίνο όπου σπούδασα εικαστικές τέχνες / πειραματικό κινηματογράφο. Ερωτεύτηκα τη super 8 κάμερά μου (Nizo) το 1988. Από τότε προσπαθώ να εντοπίσω αλλόκοσμα σωματίδια, να συλλέξω κύματα και να αφηγηθώ με όμορφο τρόπο. Προσπαθώ να απορροφήσω παράξενα πράγματα που συμβαίνουν σ' αυτόν τον κόσμο. Και να τα μασήσω και να τα φτύσω έξω ξανά.
