Αυτή την Κυριακή πάμε στα πρώην Λατομεία Βλάχου στα σύνορα της Άνω ΓΛυφάδας και της Αργυρούπολης. Σήμερα το λέμε Νταμάρι του Βλάχου. Η πέτρα, το πιο αρχαίο υλικό της σύγχρονου κόσμου μας. Η πέτρα έχει μνήμη. Και οι ταινίες μας έχουν μνήμη. Καθώς στο επίκεντρο της προβολής μας είναι το Ενθύμιον του Νίκου Ζιώγα. Μια ταινία περασμένη από ένα τούνελ εθίμων του Ηπειρώτικου, και πιο συγκεκριμένα του Θεσπρωτικού Πάσχα. Ξέρεις πως όταν βγεις απ' το τούνελ, αυτός ο κόσμος δεν θα είναι πια εκεί. Και το Ενθύμιον περισώζει πάρα πολλά απ' αυτόν τον κόσμο. Όχι τα υλικά του. Με το βλέμμα περισώζει. Λένε ότι χιλιάδες χρόνια μετά, και τα μάτια γίνονται πέτρα.
Άλλη μια ταινία της μνήμης είναι το Memories of Agano του πολύ τρυφερού Makoto Sato. Αυτή η ταινία ίσως έχει και prequel. Για την ακρίβεια ο Makoto Sato, 13 χρόνια πριν από αυτή την ταινία είχε κάνει το Living in river Agano. Τι ιδιαίτερο έχει αυτός ο ποταμός; Είναι συνδεδεμένος με την ασθένια Niigata Minamata, που δηλητηρίασε με υδράργυρο και σκότωσε ή εκφύλισε το νευρικό σύστημα εκατοντάδων Ιαπώνων στην περιοχή. Ο Makoto Sato επιστρέφει λοιπόν 13 χρόνια μετά την πρώτη του ταινία, στον ποταμό Agano, για να αναζητήσει κι αυτός έναν κόσμο που δεν υπάρχει.
Το σύντομο intro της βραδιάς θα μπορούσε να έχει και τον τίτλο τα νταμάρια ταξιδεύουν. Αφού σ' αυτό θα δούμε το sarcocornia της Σοφίας Λουκέρη. Μια ταινία με πολλά στοιχεία του λεγόμενου video-performance που γυρίστηκε στα νταμάρια της Σαλαμίνας. Ενώ ακόμα θα δούμε το in thin air του σπουδαίου Rushnan Jaleel. Ναι ας μην διστάσουμε για τέτοιους χαρακτηρισμούς σε νεότερους δημιουργούς. Ο Rushnan Jaleel στην ακόμα σύντομη, αλλά εμβληματική φιλμογραφία του, έχει παραδώσει μια πολύ σημαντική έρευνα γύρω από το παιχνίδι του φωτός με το μέσο. Οι ταινίες του φέρνουν στο νου τους πρώτους αλχημιστές του φιλμ. Αλλά διαφέρουν. Γιατί; Γιατί ο Rushnan εμπιστεύεται το ψηφιακό μέσο, τα δικά του μοναδικά ελαττώματα, σε αυτή την αναζήτηση.

Το In Thin Air επιχειρεί να αγγίξει το αόρατο επίπεδο της καθαρής εικόνας που σφηνώνεται ανάμεσα στην κάμερα και το υποκείμενο· να κινήσει τον κόσμο μέσα στο κάδρο, αντί να στρέφει το κάδρο προς τον κόσμο.
Ρήγματα στην εικόνα επιτρέπουν στα ορατά υποκείμενα να υφαίνονται και να κοσκινίζονται μέσα στον ιστό του μοντάζ, σαν τούφες μαλλιών που γλιστρούν ανάμεσα στα δάχτυλα.

Το «Ενθύμιον» ένα λυρικό ντοκιμαντέρ, είναι μια ελεγεία στην Ήπειρο που χάνεται, αλλά και ένας ύμνος στην Ήπειρο που επιβιώνει. Ένα τραγούδι αγάπης για όσους έμειναν κοντά της, για όσους μετανάστευσαν, για τους μουσικούς της και τη μοναδική της φύση.

This Sunday we’re heading to the former Vlachos Quarries, on the border between Ano Glyfada and Argyroupoli. Today, the place is known as Vlachos Quarry. Stone — the most ancient material of our modern world. Stone has memory. And our films have memory.
At the heart of our screening is Enthymion by Nikos Ziogas. A film that has passed through a tunnel of Epirus traditions, and more specifically the Easter customs of Thesprotia. You know that once you come out of that tunnel, that world will no longer be there. And Enthymion preserves so much of that world — not its material form, but through its gaze. They say that after thousands of years, even eyes turn into stone.
Another film of memory is Memories of Agano by the deeply tender Makoto Sato. This film may even have a prequel. In fact, 13 years earlier, Sato made Living on the River Agano. What is so special about this river? It is tied to the Niigata Minamata disease, which poisoned with mercury and killed or severely damaged the nervous systems of hundreds of people in the region. Thirteen years later, Sato returns to the Agano River, searching for a world that no longer exists.
The short intro to the evening could well be titled Quarries Travel. In it, we will see Sarcocornia by Soffia Loukeri — a film with strong elements of video performance, shot in the quarries of Salamina. We will also watch In Thin Air by the remarkable Rushnan Jaleel. Yes, we shouldn’t hesitate to use such words for younger creators. In his still brief yet already emblematic filmography, Jaleel has developed an important exploration of the interplay between light and medium. His films recall the early alchemists of cinema — but they differ. Why? Because Jaleel trusts the digital medium, and its own unique imperfections, in this search.

‘In thin air’ attempts to touch the invisible plane of pure image wedged between camera and subject, to move the world within the frame rather than turning the frame towards the world. Ruptures in the image allow visible subjects to be woven and sifted through the weave of the edit like strands of hair through fingers.
